AJoughin BSC3833 Medium At a special private meeting of Douglas Borough Council held on Thursday March 29, Members voted unanimously to select Councillor Jonathan Joughin (pictured) to serve as Mayor of Douglas for the 2018-2019 municipal year.

Councillor Joughin serves Victoria Ward and is vice-chairman of both the Environmental Services Committee and Pensions Committee.

He was nominated by Councillor Ritchie McNicholl and seconded by Councillor Colin Cain.

Councillor McNicholl said: ‘Councillor Joughin has always made a valued contribution to the work of the Council and applied himself with great dedication to serving Victoria Ward and the wider Douglas community. As a former deputy Mayor to the late Stan Cain he has had an insight into the role he will be assuming and his abiding interest in people – a prerequisite for the mayoralty – will serve him well. I wish him and Angela, his wife, every success for the coming year.’

Councillor Cain added: ‘I have known Jon and Angela for some 30 years. He is a committed councillor and has long been passionate about pensions, so is a great asset to the Council’s Pensions Committee. I’m sure he and Angela will represent the office of Mayor and the Borough of Douglas with enthusiasm and distinction.’

On receiving the nomination Councillor Joughin said: ‘I am pleased and honoured and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the councillors who unanimously voted for me. Angela and I will be forever grateful to them for granting us this great opportunity and honour.

‘We will be following in the footsteps of a most accomplished holder of the post and will have a busy year ahead of us, but together we will work hard to uphold the high standards our predecessors and, as Mayor of Douglas, I shall endeavour to represent the town in the best possible way I can.’
