Douglas golf course Douglas golf course

Douglas golf course is one of only a select number of golf courses in the world designed by Dr Alexander (Alister) MacKenzie, architect of some of the world’s most challenging courses, among which are the Augusta National in Atlanta, Georgia and Australia’s Royal Melbourne and it is situated in Douglas, the capital of the Isle of Man.

Since 1927 when Douglas golf course was first opened by Douglas Borough Council, the course has played an integral role in the lives of Island residents and visitors who have a particular interest in golf.  The course offers opportunity for a wide variety of golfers to participate, from beginners to Island Champions and the course is widely regarded as one of the leading courses in the Isle of Man and has hosted many prestigious competitions over the years.

Owned by Douglas Borough Council, the 18-hole municipal golf course with Green Flag Award status (an award that recognises well managed parks and green spaces and is the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the UK and around the world) is maintained by specialist Council ground staff and offers some of the finest golf in the Island and is expertely landscaped with fine turf, fairway, rough and amenity grassland, also there are ornamental, amenity shrub planting and amenity hedges, creating a beautiful ambience to enjoy your golf games whether you are a novice or experienced golfer.

Golf is well renowned for exercising whilst socialising and having a bit of friendly competition, it's a game for all ages and abilities and its unique handicapping system allows people of different abilities to play and compete together.  Golf is also a sport for the whole family as you can learn to play and compete together.  It is an unique sport, combining periods of intense concentration and skill with much longer periods of walking around beautiful landscapes.

There's no better sport for bringing people together and with its winning combination of exercise, personal challenges, competition and social interaction, golf is the perfect tonic for good health and happiness.

As Tiger Woods was recently quoted as saying " I love to play golf and that's my arena and you can characterize it and describe it however you want, but i have a love and a passion for getting that ball in the hole and beating those guys".
