Street entertainers sought for Douglas town centre this Christmas

Sunday, 05 October 2014 16:19

Town centre manager Michelle O’Malley is hoping the sound of tills ringing will be matched by the sound of music this Christmas in Douglas.

She’s calling for street performers to register now for their pitch in the town centre and entertain shoppers this Christmas.

MichelleOMalley DSC1148 MediumDouglas town centre manager Michelle O'Malley‘Street entertainment makes for a great atmosphere in the town centre, especially at Christmas. ‘We’re looking for a good mix of street performers:  singers and musicians - be they soloists or groups - brass bands, community choirs - anyone who can create a great sound, entertain the public and add to the general buzz.

‘Demand for pitches is always high, especially for the Thursday late-night shopping evenings, which this year start on November 20th. It’s “first come, first served” so I’d advise performers to apply as soon as possible as we’ve already started to draw up a timetable and allocate slots.’

For the Christmas season street entertainers must apply to Douglas Development Partnership, the body that issues busking licences on behalf of Douglas Borough Council, no later than Thursday October 23rd.

Busking slots are provided free of charge. Applicants should indicate the duration for which the slot will be required.

To apply contact Michelle O’Malley, town centre manager, Douglas Development Partnership, Chesterfield House, Victoria Street, Douglas. (See panel opposite also).
