The competition was devised by Allie Brophy who, together with Joan Whaley and Anna Maria Quilliam and in consultation with the Department of Education and Children, has been visiting schools to talk about a project promoting animal welfare awareness and helping children be responsible pet owners. In support of the project a booklet was produced and distributed to schools and Cubs and Rainbow groups and a competition launched by Allie aimed at encouraging owners to pick up after their dogs and encouraging children to learn about environmental responsibility.

Prizes were sponsored by local businesses, charities and volunteer organisation and the competition was judged by representatives from Douglas Borough Council, Onchan Commissioners and The Children’s Centre.

The Mayor and Mayoress presented the prizes and Onchan Commissioner Kathryn Williams the medals.
