Monday, 20 January 2014 14:38

Douglas Borough Council is to trial car boot sales in Shaw’s Brow car park for three months.

The sales, to be held on the last Sunday of each month only, will be coordinated by three charities: Manx Blind Welfare Society on January 26th, Junior Achievement on February 23rd and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution on March 30th.

Chair of the Environmental Services Advisory Committee Councillor Ritchie McNicholl said: ‘At a time when charitable giving is being affected by increased pressures on peoples’ budgets the Council is pleased to offer Shaw’s Brow for charity car boot sales for this three-month trial period. Centrally located in Douglas the car park will provide a secure and sheltered venue for these three Sunday events, which it is hoped will attract generous support from the general public.’

There will be no entry charge for members of the public and the car park, with the exception of the area on level three allocated to pitches, will remain open.

The car boot sales will be held from 12noon to 3pm. Applications for a pitch, for which there is a charge of £10, should be made directly to the charity.
