Illuminated address creator presents album to Council

On behalf of Douglas Borough Council Her Worship the Mayor of Douglas, Councillor Carol Malarkey JP, has received an album of illuminated addresses created by celebrated local artist Colleen Corlett to mark the local authority’s bestowal of the Honorary Freedom of the Borough on 13 recipients.

Council Leader Councillor David Christian MBE JP explained: ‘The illuminated addresses play a central role in the Freedom of the Borough ceremonies. They not only reflect the diverse achievements of the recipients but are also magnificent pieces of creative art for the Freeman and their families to cherish.


‘For this reason the album was commissioned by the Council to serve as a lasting record of the unique artwork Mrs Corlett has produced to honour some of the Island’s most distinguished individuals.’


Presenting the album Mrs Corlett said: ‘I’m delighted to have the opportunity to keep calligraphy techniques alive and to have been privileged to meet some truly wonderful people and help celebrate their life and work.’


The album features the illuminated addresses created by Mrs Corlett for:


  • His Honour John William Corrin CBE;
  • Mr Ernest Ackary;
  • His Honour Henry William Callow CBE;
  • Mr Geoffrey Ernest Duke OBE;
  • Sir Henry Charles Kerruish OBE;
  • Mr Inkerman Albert Faragher;
  • Mr Frederick A Kennish;
  • Mr George Robert Chatel MBE;
  • Mr Alfred Duggan;
  • Mr Mark Cavendish MBE;
  • The Bee Gees, Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb CBE;
  • 12th Regiment, the Royal Artillery;
  • Mr Geoffrey Friend Karran MBE.
