Wednesday, 05 June 2019 15:44

The Henry Bloom Noble Library will be echoing to the sounds of Manx music when it hosts Make Music Day - Laa Jannoo Kiaull - on Friday June 21.

Organised in collaboration with Culture Vannin, the event is in support of the global Make Music Day, the world’s largest annual music festival, which takes place across 120 countries on the date that marks the longest day of the year.

Along with a packed programme of events at the Henry Bloom Noble Library, Douglas Town Centre Management is inviting musicians to support the event by playing in the Marine Gardens on Loch Promenade during the day, while the Ian Clague MBE Centenary Bandstand in Noble’s Park will be the setting for performances and interactive sessions arranged by the Isle of Man Wind Orchestra starting at 6.30pm.

Culture Vannin’s Manx Music Development Officer Dr Chloe Woolley said: ‘I'm really excited to be working with the Henry Bloom Noble Library to create their first Make Music Day event. There will be something for everyone in the community - young and old. Making and enjoying live music is really important for wellbeing and social connectivity, and getting involved in Manx music helps keep our own unique traditions alive and relevant in the modern world. We hope Make Music Day Isle of Man will grow year on year and become an Island-wide celebration.’

Regeneration and Community Committee Chair Councillor Stephen Pitts said: ‘The Council is delighted that the library will be hosting the Island’s first Make Music Day. This event is not only an opportunity to celebrate Manx music and showcase some outstanding local musical talent but is also yet another example of how the Henry Bloom Noble Library serves as a vital community hub in the heart of Douglas.’
