Douglas primary school children’s green-fingered talent has been recognised in the Council’s annual daffodil-growing competition.

 More than 100 classes across 13 schools took part in the challenge which saw Poppy Thornton from St Mary's RC School emerge overall school winner in the Best Daffodil category, sponsored by RL360, and Alice Gregory, from Scoill Yn Jubilee, take first prize for Best Decorated Pot, sponsored by Logistics Training Services, while the Chair of the Regeneration and Community Committee special commendation went to Chloe Tyson from Anagh Coar School.

Ahead of presenting the Best Overall School Winner trophy at Douglas Town Hall RL360’s Steve Dawson - a one-time former winner of the competition - said RL360 was proud to be continuing its support of the competition and congratulated everyone who entered. Mr Dawson went on to say that the Best Decorated Pot category was a welcome addition since his day and that it offered opportunities for children to show their creative side.

One of the competition judges, the Council’s Assistant Head of Parks – Technical Graham Newsome, added that the such had been the interest shown by teaching staff a category for teachers would be included in next year’s programme.
