Council invites applications for Independent Member to join Housing Committee

Tuesday, 15 January 2019 11:04

Douglas Borough Council is inviting applications for an Independent Member to join its Housing Committee.

Chair of the Housing Committee Councillor Claire Wells said: ‘Having an Independent Member serving on the Committee supports the Council’s Corporate Plan objective to be accountable and transparent in all that it does.

‘Douglas is the Island’s largest housing authority with a social housing stock of more than 2,300 properties, so the role of Independent Member is an important one as he or she will bring greater visibility to our tenants and serve as their “voice” in the Committee’s deliberations. Importantly, the Member will be making a valuable contribution to the Council’s commitment to provide good quality, affordable housing.’

The Independent Member will bring an objective and independent perspective to the Housing Committee which meets, on average, 10 times a year. The position is voluntary, although a modest allowance is payable.

The Committee monitors the policies and performance of the Council’s social housing service, including all aspects relating to management and maintenance of its stock.

Candidates must be a current Douglas Borough Council social housing

tenant.
