Mr Castro (pictured above) emerged top in a poll organised by Douglas Town Centre Management that asked members of the public to visit its Facebook page and like the photo of which of the eight nominees they felt to be the town’s best customer service professional.

Each of the nominees were asked to describe what customer service meant to them, prompting Mr Castro to reply: ‘Always here to help customers and give 100 per cent customer service.’

For taking first place Mr Castro won the Douglas Customer Service Champion trophy and £100 of Thomas Cook vouchers to put towards his honeymoon in Jamaica.

Runner-up was Natalie Donegan (pictured below) from Marks and Spencer who chose £50 in Marks & Spencer vouchers to buy chocolates and cakes for her fellow workers.

Presenting the awards at a reception in Douglas Town Hall, Her Worship the Mayor, Councillor Debbie Pitts JP said: ‘There was an excellent response to the challenge which attracted more than 30,000 likes. Shoppers in Douglas clearly have high expectations when it comes customer service and were glowing in their praise of the eight nominees who are all inspirational ambassadors for our town.

‘Receiving good customer service makes the shopping experience memorable for all the right reasons and helps to build customer loyalty. It also contributes to projecting a positive “can-do” image for our town and the Isle of Man.’
