Mr Castro,(pictured above) emerged top out of eight finalists in a campaign organised by Douglas Town Centre Management (DTCM) to find people in customer-facing roles who deliver consistently outstanding customer service. Members of the public were asked to visit DTCM’s Facebook page and like the photo of the finalist they believed to be the best customer service professional.

Each finalist had been asked to describe what customer service meant to them, prompting Mr Castro to reply: ‘Always to smile, leave an impression and 100 per cent customer service.’

Mr Castro wins the Douglas Customer Service Champion 2017 trophy and two tickets to the Young Farmers’ concert in March.

Douglas Town Centre Manager Oliver Cheshire said: ‘Judging from the response to our Facebook post, which reached more than 60,000 people, there’s clearly an appetite to recognise those men and women who go above and beyond in their work each and every day.

‘Every one of the finalists are to be congratulated; they’re all fantastic ambassadors for the Douglas retail experience.’

A reception for the finalists was held at Douglas Town Hall hosted by His Worship the Mayor Councillor John Skinner JP and the Mayoress, Mrs Gill Skinner. His Worship said the campaign had been ‘an excellent opportunity to celebrate the amazing talent’ among Douglas town businesses. He added: ‘I think it has also made a lot of people think more about customer service and put it on the agenda. The competition has definitely put Douglas on the customer service map.’

Please continue your great work and let’s get as many people as possible on board with excellent customer service and its importance in the high street.’
